The weather this week is simply wonderful! After the last few weeks of rain, the sunshine is helping the grass just burst from the dirt. We moved our lambs in to the front pasture this morning, always a bit ambitious in the early hours. The lambs moved quite nice up and down the driveway several times before they decided to go through the gate I had opened for them. Not sure why they finally decided to go through it, but very thankful.
We have a bit of foot scald with the moist grasses that the sheep are walking through. A lot of moisture that builds up between the sheep’s toes, and it is pretty tender for them to walk. Will have them stand in a foot trough this weekend and hopefully help to clear it up.
The hens are a bit irritable since I fenced them off of the pasture. We recently seeded their pasture and they dig up the seed just as quick as we put it down, so they are on the other side of the fence for a while until the grass seed takes hold. Stopped by Peaceful Valley and picked up 150 pounds of seed that should get us going. Figure we will try a grass that has a better root system so the hens won’t scratch it up nearly as quick. Sounds like a good idea in my head… we will see!
