This weekend was pretty darn productive. Saturday we spent nearly the whole day cleaning the hen house. Cleaned the nest boxes and added quite a bit of new bedding. Took a little while, but actually cleaned up the egg wash room as well. Stamped and stickered a nice stack of egg cartons to keep ahead of the packing and finally got all of the towels washed, dried and folded.
Sunday, Keith and Matt gathered up the cows and finally got them caught up on their yearly vaccinations and worming. A day that we never seem to look forward to, but it sure makes you feel good when your animals are up to date and healthy. Tina and I vaccinated the last batch of lambs that were weaned. Ear tag for identification, wormed and vaccinated them for tetanus and over eating. Some of the little ones were limping, so we had to sit them down and trim their feet. The lambs are so much easier to work with than the cows.
I received a call from the Post Office at 6:45 this morning with a bunch of little chirps in the back ground. Our little meat birds came in! Went to pick them up and realized that I wasn't quite ready for them. Looking forward to watching these little ones grow. Meat birds are a new one for us and we are looking forward to seeing how they grow on our pasture. A few fencing modifications and we should be ok!
